Greetings from Las Vegas! We are here for the 50th Anniversary SEMA Show where we just revealed our latest automotive aftermarket crate engine, the SB4 7.0. The 32-Valve DOHC V-8 was designed, developed and manufactured in-house.

The naturally aspirated, 7.0 Liter engine features Mercury Racing’s exclusive aluminum four valve cylinder heads and dual overhead camshaft valve train integrated with a LS cylinder block packed with Mercury Racing designed and specified hardware.

This proven valve train, which greatly enhances engine durability over a standard two-valve design, enables the engine to produce a staggering 750 horsepower at 8000 RPM on pump fuel!

Benefits of the DOHC four-valve design versus the typical LS pushrod layout include:

  • Improved intake and exhaust flow enables increased engine performance
  • Efficient, high tumble four valve combustion
  • Low mass, high stiffness design reduces stresses and enables smooth high RPM operation and long life
  • Improved drivability due to optimized camshaft timing at comparable horsepower levels

We even go as far as developing our own electrical and engine management systems. Our proprietary powertrain control module, featuring internally written software, provides the opportunity for customization and application specific needs.

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and GT-Power engine performance simulations were used to develop an optimized intake manifold featuring dual throttle bodies for maximum power and efficiency.

The Mercury Racing SB4 7.0 was developed utilizing 3D simulations and analyses on airflow, cooling, fuel and lubrication systems. Intense finite element analysis (FEA) studies were conducted on the head, block and rotating components to ensure an efficient and reliable powertrain.

Tests are conducted to calibrate engine management systems, evaluate in-cylinder combustion, and measure timing drive dynamics and torsional excitation, just to name a few

Prototype testing is where the rubber meets the road. Mercury Racing conducts fired engine, motored engine, and dynamic rig testing. Tests are conducted to calibrate  engine management systems, evaluate in-cylinder combustion, and measure timing drive dynamics and torsional excitation, just to name a few. Mercury Racing people, capabilities, and facilities are recognized through ISO 9000 and EU RCD certifications.

Dressed to Thrill

SB4 7.0 engines are sold as turn-key, ready to run engines. This includes a Mercury Racing engine control system and custom styled engine cover with SB4 7.0 cover graphics. Exhaust and engine front drive components (power steering, alternator, air conditioner pump, pulleys, belts and related brackets) are not included.

Accessories 

An engine front drive accessories kit is available. The kit consists of the necessary brackets, fasteners, belts, idlers, and pulleys to attach components such as the power steering pump (which is included) and an alternator or air conditioning compressor (which may be sourced elsewhere).

An Analog Gauge Interface (AGI) kit, compatible with both digital and analog gauges, is also available.

This is our fourth consecutive SEMA show.  Our main booth, #37005, is located in the Upper South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. An SB4 7.0 is featured in their development vehicle, a mid engine Ultima GTR Supercar. The Ultima is flanked with two SB4 7.0 static displays, one fully dressed and one cutaway to reveal exclusive features. A fully dressed SB4 7.0 is also displayed in SEMA’s New Product Showcase, also in the Upper Show Hall.  Edelbrock, booth #22643 Central Hall, is displaying the SB4 cylinder head they cast for us.

TANTRUM is a SEMA 2015 GT Awards - Best Domestic Build, was featured on Jay Leno's Garage and will be seen in the the nxt Fast and Furious movie - Fast8. In US theaters, April 14, 2017.

We are proud to display one of SpeedKore’s most popular builds to showcase our potent QC4 1650 crate engine. Deemed TANTRUM, the 1970 Dodge Charger earned a Gran Turismo award for best domestic build at SEMA last year. Speedkore’s impeccable carbon fiber work, featured throughout the car, was one of many unique highlights that caught the attention of the judges and media alike.

From there – the car was sent to Los Angeles for multiple photo sessions and video shoots – culminating with a feature on Jay Leno’s Garage. Timing is everything. Shortly after the Leno show – the Mercury Racing powered Charger was requested for filming of the next movie in the Fast & Furious franchise. TANTRUM will be seen in the upcoming Fast and Furious film – Fast8. In US theaters April 14, 2017
