Sam Maisano from Go Fast Charters has enjoyed great success with our Bravo I FS propeller. Sam recently repowered his 32-foot Donzi ZF center console from 300 to 350 Verados. He contacted me to get some guidance on propeller selection. Sam’s boat is often under a load with passengers and gear and thus we thought it may make sense to see if the Bravo I LT could enhance his ride.

We sent Sam a set of 24″ pitch Bravo I LT props. The results have been phenomenal. When compared to the FS, the LT has a longer exhaust tube with a flare at the end. The flared tube provides more stern lift, which settles the bow for a more level ride. Sam and his customers are enjoying improved handling and a dryer, more comfortable boating experience.

In addition to better performance, Go Fast Charters has proven the durability of Mercury Racing propellers when they are properly maintained. On his first pair of Bravo I FS propellers, Sam logged 995 hours with zero failures! In 2016 alone, Sam put 555 hours on his one-off set of LT propellers, and continues to use them.

The Bravo I LT has allowed Go Fast Charters to utilize their higher-horsepower engines without sacrificing fuel economy and range. At 56 mph Sam uses 40 gallons per hour (gph) with the FS as opposed to 38.8 gph with the LT. Through mid-range speeds, the story is the same. At 4200 RPM, Sam gained almost 3 mph (40.6 to 43.2 mph) while realizing a fuel consumption savings of 1.5 gph.

  1. I have a zv21 rigged with merc kicker and 350 verado that I recently had reflashed successfully to gain 105 hp. is this the prop for me and if so could to guess as to the size I need?

    I own a 21 foot deep V water ski boat (similar to a ski / rave boat) with a 300 HP Verado Pro on the back. The boat with engine and fuel weighs about 3050 pds plus we usually have 4 to 5 people on board. I primarily use the boat for social slalom water skiing, but also use it for cruising out in the bay. My current prop is a Vensura 19p which I find is a good all round prop, will pull a single skier OK, however it is still missing that little bit of oomph on hole shot on a 165pd skier, and struggles with larger skiers and struggles a lot with two skiers. What prop do you recommend for water skiing, especially for hole shot, with good pulling power. I am not concerned with speed, only pulling power and hole shot, and fuel economy at 32mph which is about 3800rpm’s with the Vensura 19P. (WOT is 6450 at 62Mph)
    Do I look at a larger diamiter prop such as a Bravo (FS, LT or ??) or Rev 4, a lower pitch Vensura or something like a High Five. Several dealers have recommended against a High Five for such a large torqy engine, suggesting it is to smaller diamiter.

    1. Tom,
      The 19” pitch Vensura is a good prop for your application. Unfortunately, it is no longer available so that is not an option. I agree with the dealers avoiding the High Five. In a straight line – it does pull hard but the small blades have a hard time hooking up in turns. Also, when placing the engine in reverse the boat doesn’t stop like 4-blade props. Consider the Rev 4 XP in 17” pitch. It should offer a good hole shot. The low of pitch will allow you to hit the rev-limiter (your choice). To pull two skiers you’ll need that low of pitch.

        I sent a similar note to you several months ago, (with a lot more detail) however I never saw a response. trolling through pages, I have just seen a response. In it, you suggested an Enertia 16p.
        Anyway, over the last couple of weeks, I trialed a 17p Vensura, 17P Rev 4 and 19P Rev 4. The 17P Vensura and Rev 4 were both quicker to plane (to 25mph) than the 19p Vensura. The 17p Vensura felt quicker, but the stop watch tells me they were both near identicle. I did not tow any skiers during the tests. The following weekend, I trialed the 15p Rev 4. It was awesome, I then pulled three single skiers (192pds, 154pds and 135pds) with ease it was great, and still reached 53mph. The big problem was that it cavitated or blew out on hole shot if I put my foot down quickly, and cavitated in tight corners, I could not believe the difference between the 17p and the 15p Rev 4. So I must be close. I also trialled a 19p High Five, without skiers. It was very quick, but did not sound right, the Verado lost that V8 growl, sounded more like a 2 stroke edge trimmer. Over the next few weeks, I have a 17p Enertia, 17p Vensura and 21p high five to trial, and I would like to re try the 17P rev 4 without vent plugs pulling a skier. So I think I am getting close
        This propping is a real black art. I feel that a standard Verado instead of a Verado Pro would have suited water skiing better because of the higher gear ratio. I am happy to end up with two props after all of this.
