Desert Storm! Hoorah!

In less than 24 hours we’ll be boarding a plane for our trek to Lake Havasu City, Arizona for the Desert Storm Poker Run. When you live in Wisconsin – you need a full day of travel when your destination is… well, just about anywhere. We fly into Phoenix and then drive 3-1/2 hours to Havasu.

A rare, sunny scene of from the 2010 Desert Storm Street Party. Last year’s event was hampered with unusually cool weather and torrential rains. The forecast this year is hot and sunny. The weather is supposed to be nice, too!

Things get rolling at high noon Thursday with 5th annual Desert Storm Street Party. The event has grown to be the largest performance boat show in the world. The biggest and baddest boats from the East Coast, West Coast and all areas in between converge on the small Western town to show their muscle throughout the three-day Desert Storm event.

We will showcase our revamped mobile marketing truck stocked with an impressive mix of product displays including the all-new 1100 sterndrive (see the blog On The Road Again).

Our merchandise supplier Threds will debut a new Mercury Racing Desert Storm T-shirt. Fans will also have an opportunity to purchase Mercury Racing merchandise at Rotary Park during the speed trials on Saturday. Also, you can order the Desert Storm T-shirt on-line at the Mercury DockStore website.

Can’t make Desert Storm in person? View this spectacle live via the Internet. Rich Carter and Dave Johnson are providing streaming video of the entire Street Party on Thursday. You can access the video via Dave’s website, www.riverdavesplace.com or the official Desert Storm website,www.lakeracer.com.

1350 Roll Call

Desert Storm 2011 will be the largest on-water gathering of Mercury Racing 1350 powered boats to date. A variety of boat brands will showcase these engines at the Street party and in the poker run: Ron Harrison’s there with his 46-foot Cigarette Rider XP; look for three entries from Dave’s Custom Boats (Dave is bringing two M-35s and one M-31 — all Wide Bodies); Randy Davis is treking (a grueling mile or so) with his 43-foot Nordic Enforcer; and there will be three MTI 48 Race/Pleasure catamarans from Randy Scism’s shop.  The full-line of Mercury Racing sterndrives (525 EFI-1200 SCi) as well as a few outboards (OptiMax 300XS, 2.5 EFIs) will be featured in the event as well.

We will post updates on Desert Storm, as available, on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Watch for a blog with event details next week.
