Torrente Wins Formula One P.R.O.P. Tour Season Opener

(FOND DU LAC, Wis., May 5, 2010) - Shaun Torrente of Homestead, Fla., battled high winds and extremely rough course conditions to win the Port Neches RiverFest Formula One tunnel boat race Sunday, May 2, in the South Texas coastal town of Port Neches. The race was round one of the 2010 Formula One P.R.O.P. Tour tunnel boat racing series.

Tim Seebold of Osage Beach, Mo., earned the pole position in qualifying on Saturday to lead the 10-boat field at the start of the 50-lap Formula One final event Sunday.

Seebold blasted off the start dock and maintained a comfortable lead until Brian Norman of Mandeville, La., barrel rolled in turn one, stopping the race with 38 laps completed. Torrente catapulted off the dock on the restart and never looked back for the final 12-laps to win his second consecutive Port Neches, Texas, event. Seebold placed second with Michael Schubert of Richmond, Texas, Chris Fairchild of Paw Paw, Ill, and Jose Mendana Jr. of Miami, Fla., rounding out 3-5. All, with the exception of Schubert, were powered by Mercury 2.5 EFI race outboards.

Formula Two
Glyn Mathews of Richmond, Texas, drove his Mercury SST 120 race outboard-powered tunnel race boat to win the 30-lap final Formula Two race. Canadian Dan Orchid, who moved up from SST 45 into Formula Two with an all-new Gen 2 Mercury OptiMax 200XS SST race outboard-powered rig, demonstrated an extreme driving skill and courage - dancing in and out of traffic over very rough course conditions to finish a close second overall. Texans Johnny Fleming and Tracy Hawkins placed 3-4. OptiMax 200 XS SST race outboard-powered Jimmy Merleau of Fennville, Mich., rounded of fifth in Formula Two competition. All were powered by Mercury race outboards.

Round two of the 2010 Formula One P.R.O.P. Tour is the Bay City River Roar, June 26-27 in Bay City, Mich.
