Mercury Racing Sweeps Powerboat P1 Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea

(FOND DU LAC, Wis., June 24, 2009) - The Italian duo of Luca Formilli Fendi and Matteo Nicolini piloted their Mercury P1 Race engine powered #10 Cigarette Smash Poker to win the Powerboat P1 World Championship Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea Evolution class endurance race Sunday, June 21 in Istanbul, Turkey. The race was round four of the 2009 Powerboat P1 World Championship.

#10 Cigarette Smash Poker led the six-lap, 73-nautical mile race from start to finish. Fendi and Nicolini finished nearly a minute ahead of the Mercury P1 Race engine powered Fountain #33 Furnibo. The #53 Pignolo Metamarine Diesel rounded out third.

Throttleman Nicolini said, "We had better acceleration today with a slightly better set-up but we need to improve the boat a bit as Lucas Oil is still very strong and we need to work on the boat to ensure we are competitive in San Benedetto."

The combination of points earned in two days of racing gave Cigarette Smash Poker the Turkish Grand Prix Evolution Class title, followed by Furnibo and Silverline.
