MERCURY PRODUCT PROTECTION

Mercury Product Protection is an extended service contract for your Mercury and MerCruiser engine and MotorGuide Trolling Motor that covers certain expenses caused by defects in materials and workmanship after the Mercury Limited Warranty expires.

Mercury Product Protection

  • Provides up to eight years of total coverage for your engine.  (Mercury Limited Warranty + Product Protection)
  • factory-backed extended service contract, Mercury Product Protection is administered 100% by Mercury Marine
  • Is non-declining coverage. The value of the coverage does not decrease over the life of the contract.
  • Is transferable to subsequent owners, which typically increases the resale value of your engine.
  • Must be purchased before your engine’s Mercury Limited Warranty expires. Once purchased, Mercury Product Protection coverage takes effect the day the Mercury Limited Warranty expires.

Two Levels of Coverage

  • Gold Level coverage protects against mechanical failures.
  • Platinum Level coverage protects against mechanical and electrical failures.

Coverage can be purchased within the Factory Mercury Limited Warranty period as long the model was originally manufactured in the current and four proceeding calendar years. Coverage amount adheres to the suggested list price for your Mercury product at the time of the original sale and not the current ABOS Blue Book value. The plan is available for consumers that are residents of the United States or Canada and boat in the United States or Canada. Engines must be used for recreational purposes and have fewer than 500 accumulated engine hours (at time of purchase). Our contract specifically excludes any commercial professional, not-for-profit, work-related, local, state, or federal government use, or used product imported from outside the United States or Canada. You can check to see if your engine is eligible for a Mercury Product Protection Plan by contacting your local Mercury dealer.

NOTE: This Comparison Chart is not a governing document. Please review the Mercury Product Protection 'Plan Benefits & Provisions' statement for specific coverages and exclusinos. These plans are available for purchase with options to extend or upgrade depending on your current coverage.*

*Restrictions apply. See requirements in the Plan Benefits and Provisions.

ERROR

Service and Claims

With Mercury Product Protection there are no claims adjustors or inspectors to work with to determine the cause of failure. In fact, the claims process is exactly the same as the process for the Mercury Limited Warranty.

  • Claims are paid through the dealership so you never pay for the repair or wait for reimbursement.
  • MPP has a $50 deductible per claim.

The contract is between you and Mercury Marine, so you can have your engine serviced at any of more than 3,600 authorized Mercury dealers in the United States and Canada. At an authorized Mercury service center, a qualified Mercury Service Technician will assess the failure and process the claim through Mercury Marine. You can check to see if your engine is eligible for a Mercury Product Protection plan by contacting your local Mercury dealer.

Transferability

Mercury Product Protection is fully transferable to subsequent recreational-use owners, typically increasing product value at resale or trade.

Our Gold and Platinum contracts are transferable to a subsequent recreational-use purchaser within 30 business days from the date of sale. Engines not purchased directly from another pleasure-use owner or from an Authorized Mercury or MotorGuide dealer are ineligible for coverage.

Mercury Product Protection Transfer Requirements:

  • Completed Transfer form
  • Copy of the Bill of Sale/Receipt, including the engine serial number and date of sale (a blank bill of sale is provided below)
  • Transfer fee per the fee schedule provided on the Transfer Form

NOTE: Mercury has the right to refuse the transfer of engines/trolling motors purchased as repossessed product, or product purchased at auction, from a salvage yard, from a liquidator, from an insurance company, from unauthorized marine dealers or boat builders, or other third-party entities. Mercury may request an inspection of the product from an Authorized Mercury Dealer to determine condition and performance prior to transferring any remaining warranty. The customer is responsible for the cost of the inspection.
