Mercury Marine raises more than $12,000 during its annual Fill the Boat to Cast Out Hunger food drive

Fond du Lac, Wis. – Mercury Marine employees in Fond du Lac donated and raised more than $12,000 for its annual “Fill the Boat to Cast Out Hunger” food drive on Thursday, surpassing its total from 2017. The event, now in its 8th year, raises money and food for the Fondy Food Pantry.

“Each year our employees look forward to this event and each year I am amazed at the hard work and dedication by our team,” said Andres Gonzalez, Mercury Marine vice president of human resources. “To generate this kind of support for the Fondy Food Pantry in just one week, culminated with an event that brings our employees together is just incredible.”

In what has become a very popular annual event, Mercury employees bring in non-perishable food items and cash donations over a week-long period which are used to provide food assistance to thousands of individuals and families in the Fond du Lac area. The Fondy Food Pantry has been a fixture in the community for close to 45 years.

In addition to the donations, Mercury hosted a food drive cookout on its campus where employees cooked brats, hamburgers and grilled chicken and sold tickets with the proceeds going back to the Fondy Food Pantry.

Another fixture of the event is the 3rd annual Mercury Car and Motor Show which allowed employees to showcase one of their many passions. Employees displayed their cars and their entry fees for the show were also donated to the Fondy Food Pantry. There were two winners this year. Mercury employee Gary Fenrich won the President's Cup voted on by Mercury president John Pfeifer while Mark Steinman won the Quicksilver Cup, taking top honors as the people's choice award.

“Fond du Lac is our home, it is our community and it is where many of our employees live,” said Gonzalez. “We made a commitment not just to invest back in the business and grow in Fond du Lac, but to support the community and events like Fill the Boat are one of many examples of our employees working together to help the Fond du Lac community.”
